Dissecting the Liberal Talking Points: The Tea Party Isn't Going Anywhere

The Drive-By Media has been pushing the idea that "the Tea Party's power has peaked" in recent weeks.  I'm here to tell you that's wishful thinking on the part of the Left.  The Tea Party's power hasn't begun to peak.

Let's start by examining what birthed the Tea Party in the first place:

- Barrack Obama's liberal policies in general.

- Obama and the Democrats ramming Obamacare down our throats.

- The Republican party's failure to be legitimately conservative and spending money like liberals.

Just for the record, Obama is still governing like a liberal, Obama and the Democrats are still refusing to even allow an Obamacare repeal to come to a vote, and the GOP is still playing the Washington political "compromise" game and thus costing us our AAA credit rating from Standard and Poors. Although some Republicans, namely the Tea Party, are doing exactly what they were sent to Washington to do.

People are still mad at the way the government is running.  79% of Americans say the country is heading in the wrong direction, including 63% of Democrats. (1)  The President's approval rating sits at 42% according to Rasmussen (2) and 39% according to Gallup (3) as of Thursday's samples.  Self described Independents approval of the President is down to 35% according to another Gallup poll earlier this week (4), making Obama's only above 50% rating with Democrats.

Nothing in this data suggests that the Tea Party is going to disappear. People are still, to use the term, "mad as Hell."  The healthy outlet of that anger is the Tea Party and is carried out in peaceful protests and the ballot box.

The Drive-By Media is hoping against hope that the Tea Party will disappear.  I'm happy to disappoint you liberals, the Tea Party isn't going away.  We stand for conservatism and the Constitution, God and country.  We're going to keep fighting the good fight because America is worth fighting for.  No amount of hoping is going to turn the nation into a nation of liberals.  We aren't.  As long as you try to push your liberalism on us, there will still be a Tea Party.  Deal with it.

  1. The Encyclopedia Britannica says...

"Liberalism: political doctrine that takes protecting and enhancing the freedom of the individual to be the central problem of politics. Liberals typically believe that government is necessary to protect individuals from being harmed by others; but they also recognize that government itself can pose a threat to liberty. As the revolutionary American pamphleteer Thomas Paine expressed it in Common Sense (1776), government is at best “a necessary evil.” Laws, judges, and police are needed to secure the individual’s life and liberty, but their coercive power may also be turned against him." (and it continues...)

The Tea Party is therefore liberal. Christian conservatives who believe in imposing their beliefs on others are not liberal. They support views counter to those that America was founded on.

  2. My friend, you are confusing modern liberalism with Classical liberalism. Classical liberalism is defined as:

"The philosophy committed to the ideal of limited government, constitutionalism, rule of law, due process, and liberty of individuals including freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and free markets."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_liberalism

That, my friend, defines modern conservatism. What was radical 200 plus years ago is something that we are attempting to conserve today.

Modern liberalism tries to tear down the Constitution, believes in large government, and silences freedom of religon and speech via political correctness. Modern liberals are the antithesis of classical liberalism.

What you've engaged in is called an etymological falacy, which is "a genetic fallacy that holds, erroneously, that the historical meaning of a word or phrase is necessarily similar to its actual present-day meaning."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etymological_fallacy

You're defining modern liberalism as the same thing as classical liberalism, and that is false.

As far as your remark about Christian conservatives...I think you don't understand two things. One, you don't understand that freedom of speech and freedom of religon are government protections. You aren't free to not hear anything from those who disagree with you. Me exercising my freedom of speech as pertaining to my faith isn't harming you...your choice is answer or don't listen.

Two, you do not understand why Christians are trying to share our faith with others. I honestly believe that, as the Bible says, Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to Heaven. I am convinced of this in my heart of hearts. Therefore, in loving other people, I want them to share in the joyous news that salvation through grace is a FREE GIFT from God! We share out of love, not out of oppression. Some are not as good at it as others, but it is out of love and desire to share the wonderful gift that we have received!

  3. How is anyone trying to silence freedom of religion? We also have separation of church and state. The idea is... you mind your own business and I'll mind mine. Liberty. Liberal.

Christianity is just one of a number of religions. From the point of view of many, it has nothing to do with reality and is simply YOUR way of dealing with questions about life and the universe. You have no right to tell people what they can do in their own lives and in their own homes. It doesn't matter if you think your religion is valid any more than it matters if Hindus or Pagans think theirs is... they don't have the right to bother you with their views and you don't have the right to bother anyone else with yours. Liberty. Liberal.

Freedom to carry any gun I want. Freedom to take any drug I want. Freedom to have sex with anyone I want. Freedom to worship whatever gods, idols, or forces I want. Liberty. Liberal.

Liberals aren't into big government, they are into government that works for the people. Government is good at some things and bad at others. Most people trying to tear it down are simply trying to get it out of the way of their personal agendas.

And before you tell me that keeping your religion out of our schools is silencing religion... wrong. You can have your christian schools. Schools paid for by the public are not places for you to promote your religion any more than they are places to promote Islam or druidism. Schools are places for learning facts. Keep your religion in churches where it belongs.

  4. "How is anyone trying to silence freedom of religion? We also have separation of church and state. The idea is... you mind your own business and I'll mind mine. Liberty. Liberal."

You are trying to silence it now, actually, by telling me what to discuss with people. And there is no such thing as a legal "separation of church and state." That statement came from a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote to John Adams. Nice try.

"Christianity is just one of a number of religions. From the point of view of many, it has nothing to do with reality and is simply YOUR way of dealing with questions about life and the universe. You have no right to tell people what they can do in their own lives and in their own homes. I have news for you. I have the right to speak freely on any subject provided it does no one any physical harm. That includes on my faith. You have a choice. You can listen, you can walk away, you can argue with me. That's your freedom. You don't counter my free speech by telling me to stop. You counter it with free speech of your own.

"Freedom to carry any gun I want. Freedom to take any drug I want. Freedom to have sex with anyone I want. Freedom to worship whatever gods, idols, or forces I want. Liberty. Liberal."

You have that freedom. Nobody is arguing that. Freedom from GOVERNMENT INTRUSION. The Bill of Rights has absolutely nothing to do with me. I can say whatever I want to you regarding politics, religion, etc. I'm not harming your rights. Your choice is to listen or not, to engage me in debate as we're doing or not. You have a choice to read Biblical Conservatism or not. Nobody forces you to do that either. You have a choice to counter me on your own blog too.

"Liberals aren't into big government, they are into government that works for the people. Government is good at some things and bad at others. Most people trying to tear it down are simply trying to get it out of the way of their personal agendas."

Right...because liberty means telling restaurants in New York state (where I live) what kind of oil they can cook their food in? Yep that's liberty on parade. Telling me I don't know what kind of food is right for me to eat. That's liberty.

"And before you tell me that keeping your religion out of our schools is silencing religion... wrong. You can have your christian schools. Schools paid for by the public are not places for you to promote your religion any more than they are places to promote Islam or druidism. Schools are places for learning facts. Nice. It wasn't enough to use the etymological falacy to continue to argue that liberal means what it once meant, now you're going to ad homonym attacks. Do me a favor, debate things I've said, please, and not things you're expecting me to say? I'd appreciate it.

For the record, I've never said a word about teaching religion in schools. I do expect that students should be able to have private clubs etc and I also believe teachers should be allowed to join/lead them. As long as they are voluntary. Ditto for prayer at the flag pole, before school, that is voluntary.

Here's the problem: You seem to believe you have a freedom from religion. You don't. You have the freedom to ignore me when I speak about my faith, but I have every right to speak about it. It's probably best you get over your assumption that you have a right to be offended at that now.

  5. For the record, if you truly believe the things you are saying, you aren't actually a liberal. You've defined yourself incorrectly. What you're describing, aside from your fervent desire to never hear about anyone's faith because it might harm your sensitive ears, is libertarianism.

However, like it or not, the word liberal has seen it's coloquial meaning change since the nation was founded. I'm sorry, but word meanings do evolve. In 1776, if someone had a "gay kid" they had a "happy baby goat." You want to tell me "gay kid" has anything to do with baby goats or happiness now?

  6. I don't even know where you get this stuff about your right to say things. No one denies your free speech. I'm talking about trying to infuse your religion into politics and the law. It doesn't belong there. It's an opinion, not a fact. A logical person does not base policy on the opinions of a segment of the affected population, especially when those opinions are founded in "faith" and not "fact". That's just common sense.

As for cooking oil... why do you think people should be "free" to hurt other people? The government is there to protect people. Being liberal does not mean the freedom to murder, rape, poison, or otherwise harm people.

Regulations are there to protect people. Protecting people includes protecting the environment. Just because your entire philosophy on life and the universe is irrational does not mean your irrational beliefs on things like light bulbs are valid. You don't have the right to pollute OUR environment based on YOUR beliefs, when YOUR beliefs have no basis in the world of facts... where I live.

Rigid ideology and ignorance of the facts is exactly what's killing this country right now.

If you want to have a debate about the facts that support my faith, we can do that. However, you need to realize two things. One, there is no legal separation of Church and State. That does not exist in our founding documents. There is an establishment clause forbidding the establishment of a state religion. That's it.

"As for cooking oil... why do you think people should be "free" to hurt other people? The government is there to protect people. Being liberal does not mean the freedom to murder, rape, poison, or otherwise harm people."

Nice Ad Homonym attack. I never said any of those things, but hey, never let the facts that you claim to love get in the way of a good attack.

Except you need real science to prove these arguments, and you don't have it. Take the light bulbs. Do you know what a standard lightbulb is made out of? Glass, a bit of copper, and a cardboard filament. Do you know what a florescent bulb is made out of? Glass, a little copper, and mercury. So please tell me what specifically will pollute more...cardboard or mercury?

"Rigid ideology and ignorance of the facts is exactly what's killing this country right now."

    Says the rigid liberal ideolouge.

You honestly believe that you're the wise and fair one who is looking at only facts, and I'm sorry to be the one to tell you that you have deceived yourself. Truth is you're as much as an ideolouge as I am...I just am honest and admit it.
